i don't know about STI. but my co-workers who are from there didn't know any *nix/Linux/*BSD. we had to train them. my impression regarding AMA (apart from the fact that they're market driven and therefore look at that 90+% market share and drool) is that they had to go with all microsoft software (where microsoft had any offerings anyway) because of that piracy case long ago (was that five years ago? more?). back then (and probably now, too), the standard microsoft settlement was, payment of a huge fine, and agreement to only use microsoft software (except, possibly for those courses where microsoft didn't have any corresponding software). if anyone has any information about this (i get my impression only from news reports that i've since forgotten, five year old news rots away pretty quickly in my brain) i'd be very glad of any new and accurate data :). of course that agreement might have lapsed already. but it's perfectly reasonable for a school to teach microsoft only tools. after all, the market is there, and microsoft tools *are* easier to teach, and, with remarkably little talent or work, students get the impression that they're real programmers when really, all they know to do is string a bunch of controls together with spit, some duct tape and a little VB code. tiger -- Gerald Timothy Quimpo gquimpo*hotmail.com tiger*sni*ph http://bopolissimus.sni.ph Public Key: "gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 672F4C78" They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up their wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
