Aaahhh too bad. And all this time I was entertaining the thought of

i don't know about STI. but my co-workers who are from there didn't
know any *nix/Linux/*BSD. we had to train them.

The sin(?) of not teaching other platforms is not only committed by AMA and STI. I came from one of the Big Four universities and we didnt have any *nix classes either. Sure we had to do some COBOL lab work using dumb terminals but that was just about it. What we had though is enough classes that teaches the computing fundamentals that gives students enough basic knowledge to grasp more complex computing theories and principles.

I am not defending my alma mater. The curriculum that I had to through to get my degree does not hold water when compared to the curriculum of the other universities. But I have met a lot of the graduates of these other schools and I think I can compete with them, if not better some of them. A good curriculum is a must-have for a good education but the student's attitude is the most influential factor (imho). To provide a little example, intellectually speaking I dont think Sacha will come out any different if she enrolled in AMA. She would not have the luxury of a good curriculum but her determination and thirst for knowledge would overcome that little stumbling block.

And to steer this thread back to the AMA/STI bashing, I dont have that much confidence in AMA graduates either. I have only met two graduates who instantly got my respects and they were the one who influenced me to get a degree in computer science. But AMA was in my short list of options when I was choosing which tertiary school I would attend to here in Manila... but that was before all of these marketing hypes...

ciao!
