I'm about to try a driver that is said to support the AC-link modem built in to the A530+ unfortunately the free version only supports 14.4 kbps and no fax ( check out www.linuxant.com )
I also tried to set up the xfree86 driver for the SIS video.... but it did not function as expected.... and I can't get agpgart to work but can use radeon for DRM, you need these 2 plus the xfree86 driver for your video card, in order for dri to work (I think :-) )
How do you control the built-in sound volume? (for music/vcd/etc playback) Have you tried to use an external usb kbd? I cann't get one to work/work properly ( already compiled in USB & HID drivers).
Can you play DVD/VCD full screen, w/o slow down on the A530+?
Most USB modems are soft-modems.... Parallel to serial converter w/ a device driver to emmulate ttyS0 may be the best bet.... O:-)
By the way did you manage to get the built-in Prism 3 usb WLAN (802.11b) to work..... ? A530+ has 2 sets of USB chipsets (one SIS for Prism 3 and the rest is VIA)
nb: tested it on Debian 3.0r0 w/ 2.4.22 kernel and slackware 9.1
I really wish manufacturers will start to bundle Linux drivers for all their products... ;-)

I just also recently bought this portable desktop, and enjoying every minute with it. Except for a few stumbling blocks I encountered with Debian Woody, I've decided on putting in Morphix instead because it (Morphix) detected the hardware just fine.
I was thinking of putting RH in, but because I couldn't afford the boxed set I decided on using Debian instead. Of course, I don't absolutely have to get the RH boxed set, but still I'd feel better with it (I don't know why). But anyway...
I've recently tried installing and running Neverwinter Nights on this laptop (yes, the installation process was done in Linux) and it doesn't want to cooperate when I use the accelerated drivers for the SiS 315PRO video that comes with the desknote. After getting the X video drivers for the SiS 315PRO video card from http://www.winischhofer.net/ and follwing the instructions, I finally got 2D acceleration support but no DRI.
What I'm stuck with right now is the fact that it (NWN) ran on the same hardware without acceleration but using the VESA driver. When I properly setup the software to deal with the hardware, it won't work. I also got the needed SDL drivers (>= 1.2.5) but still to no avail.
And as for the modem, I am also trying to figure out how to get it working in Linux. I have an external modem, but it has to be connected to a serial port -- which weirdly, the Desknote does NOT have. I'm currently using the other laptop as the gateway, which dials out and does NAT for me -- both connected via a crossover ethernet cable.
Any help regarding the NWN issue as well as the modem would be most
appreciated.
While we're at it, what's a reliable USB modem brand that works swell in
Linux? Preferably those available locally... And cost does matter.
TIA!
