The result of your fork bomb has nothing to do with the distro, only the
kernel. The fact that you haven't mentioned even one kernel version
raises the distinct smell of "n00b".
People used to do this as a local DOS attack on shared Unix hosts, it's
not so cool now that we have the same or very similar OS running at
home. Various process limits now work to keep that under control.
