I think that's what's happening. Is there any way to prevent this while
still being able to access the local DNS and the DNS of the internet
provider?
I just checked the /etc/resolv.conf od my local server. It contains the
nameservers of our provider and there is NO entry that points to
localhost. The server cannot ping any of the local network's hosts by
name. Strangely, though, the other hosts on the network CAN ping other
local network hosts by name. I guess they are accessing a DNS cache.
