Corrupted rpm database. Often this can be solve by issuing 
'rpm --rebuilddb' as root. If that doesn't work, you will have to
download a pre-compiled binary of rpm version later than what you
currently have and use that in issuing 'rpm --rebuildb'. Check out my
previous post[1] for details. Alternatively, you can copy the corrupted
rpm database into an RH box that has a later rpm version and do the
rebuild from there.
