exactly right Ian  :)

actually the cyclades is cheaper than a comparable Cisco at $30,000+
but thanks to the dotcom collapse you can get cisco's really cheap.

plus, even on a used cisco you can get Smartnet for it (expensive though, 
25% of SRP -- so Smartnet'ing a full-monty AS5300 would cost $7500 a year 
or so) which means you can get a service unit if ever the cisco breaks 
down. i don't think a DIY cyclades based solution would give you that 
option...

of course for the cost of Smartnet you can just buy a spare 5300  :) 
cheaper than a 1-year subscription. Of course SIS2002 service contract is 
cheaper than Smartnet, but you can't SIS a used unit you got on eBay..
