Ok the closest solution I can find to the functionality of an AS5300 is
the cyclades PC400 RAS-0150 [1].  This can support 2 E1s and 64 digital
modems.

To get 240 ports off this product and stick it in a PC, you need at least
4 cards.  Each card is priced at $6526.00 [1], so thats $26,104.  Plus a
PC which we can probably round off at US$2000.  So that's $28104.00

Much as i would like to prefer for an all-linux setup, I think i'll go for
the AS5300 :)
  
But you're comparing a brand new setup with a used Cisco from eBay, not a very fair comparison.
