Open office 1.1.1 is still free.

StarOffice and OpenOffice are pretty similar, although the differences were made clear and distinct beginning with the SO 5.2 release. While StarOffice is based on OpenOffice, it comes with code that's not available in the OO.org release.[1] There're a couple of nifty features with StarOffice 6 [2], but for the most part, OpenOffice.org will suffice.

On a related note, there's an interesting article about MS Word and OpenOffice.org Writer, citing a "word of difference." [3]

To answer your question, though, I think Macromind might carry StarOffice (though I'm not sure if they have the latest release).
