I guess their requirement is exact jre 1.3 not jre 1.3 or later, coz i have 1.4 and it doesnt work. one internet banking site that supports mozilla/firefox is eastwestbanker.com ive noticed it via their downloads page http://www.eastwestbanker.com/info/download/ .I've tested the site just now, at least no blocking message appears this time, before I used to receive a message like: please use IE, your browser is not supported. I use Firefox 0.9.1 but the java applets are still not working. I have contacted them twice, with no reply.

Same with bancnet. They should assume that some people know Mozilla is better than IE. Worst is, they made the site compatible with IE alone! wtf
Not really. Bancnet Online works with Netscape 6.x and above or Mozilla with User Agent set to Netscape 6.x. The developers obviously don't know that Netscape and Mozilla are using the same rendering engine and code. You also need JRE 1.3 at least. The problem with using Bancnet online under Linux is that the java applet does not fit on the size they set for the applet to run on. The fonts and other widgets (the buttons and combo-box) are larger on the Linux JRE compared to Windows.
