If you're looking for a thermonuclear integrated development
environment, Emacs is the way to go. It integrates well with other tools
like gcc and gdb, has syntax highlighting, automatic tab, and wouldn't
need you to go away from your keyboard due to its extensive keyboard
shortcut combos. It can mean a paradigm shift in what you consider as an
"IDE" but it offers the best integration with many development tools for
Unix, and is quite non-intrusive should you get seasoned with it.

There are quite good X-based "IDEs" you can use should you care to be
intruded to lift your right/left hand to the mouse, like Anjuta,
Eclipse, Kdevelop, SciTE (also a favorite of mine...).
