I went away for just a few days and what do we have here!?

Anyway....my comments...

- PLUG was orginally conceived to be free and easy going. In fact when
people asked me how to join PLUG (a few years back when I was still
running the list), I simply stated, join the mailing list. That's it.
If you make rules, harsh ones at that, you create dissension and
factions.
You needn't worry about people with differing mindsets joining the
group. If they say something that that would be detrimental, I'm sure
Ian will shoot him down first...the rest will just kick him when he's
down...

- the board can do whatever they like, but they cannot do this..

>Anyway, quoting the PLUG Constitution, Chapter XII: Effectivity:
>"This constitution shall take effect upon approval of the Board.
>The provision of this Constitution shall be prospective in character
>and nature."

Why?...Constitution should be approved and ratified by its members,
not the board.

- - am curious at what the function of juridical members (or institutional
members)...is there a need? just ask them for donations and let them
promote their product...you needn't collect individual membership fees...
On the other hand, what ever happened to the membership fees?

-- lifetime members -- why? just be a regular member. for life. period.
You create a category for lifetime members, but who will nominate and
approve lifetime members?...lifetime members? ...chicken and egg
problems. If the GA
is going to approve it, what constitute a GA? 50% of the members
should be present?...
lifetime members category also creates an elitist environment -- what
happens to members that are nominated but not approved or did not
pass? This can become highly subjective and the end result is
divisiveness.

>The PLUG, PH-Linux-Newbie and PLUG-Misc mailing lists are still open for
>everyone, members, non-members and to the community. We are not
>planning to separate the mailing lists. What we're doing here is to
>make PLUG an organized and formal organization, not a group of people
>that just come and go.

I hear you...but what's wrong with a group of people that come and go?
people that "go" aren't members and people that "come" are members that
define what the group should be doing...quite dynamic in fact...
If they go, they aren't members, right? PLUG's nature is really different...
unlike any organization...there is organization in chaos...and there's chaos
in organization...the more order you try to put, the more chaotic it becomes.
