I was about to say the same thing, and that your guess is as good as
mine. I think the PCI bandwidth contention is a major issue especially
in pre-AGP video card days. And to think that you might have a box that
has an IDE controller that's also competing with the PCI bandwidth
usage, then you have yourself setup for a box that will kneel on every
operation.
