I vote ESD/EMI. Can you try maintaining contact with a grounded object while rising from the chair? Say the outer shield of a USB cable that is plugged into your computer, for example?
Back when I was using a crappy plastic chair mat, merely leaning back in my office chair would sometimes trigger my oscilloscope. Even with a hardwood floor you could be experiencing an ESD event, particularly with the low humidity we have right now.
