I just found a troubleshooter page from google over here:

If gmail is dumping the message in a weird box then something along the
lines of the following should help you find it.

*in:anywhere rfc822msgid:[INSERT MESSAGE-ID HERE]*

I went through the questions based on what you have mentioned so far and it
looks like the fancy search syntax is your last option. Failing that, then
the message really didn't make it and Google would like a word with you
privately.
