Thanks for the link; the problem there is *exactly* what I'm getting. Unfortunately none of the solutions offered made any difference. But at least now I know that all the error messages are from VLC, not the tuner. In VLC I went into VLC Preferences (All) > Input/Codecs > Advanced and increased the timeouts by a factor of 10. Now it should be buffered into sometime next week. But it made no difference. Then I installed libdvdcss2, but again, it made no difference. I also verified that the version of VLC on both computers is the same, and both are on the same 5.3 kernel.
