Playing a music mp3 via audacity and listening with the Yamaha CM500 headset, the sound came through only the left speaker and was distorted (the latter might be how audacity's defaults are set).
Yesterday on the ringcentral call I could hear (left ear only and sound was not really clear) and the other participants could hear me, but I don't know if it was the headset mic (which pavucontrol showed was active) or the webcam's mic (which pavucontrol now shows as the input device because the headset is disconnected.) I need to determine if this is a warranty issue with the headset or an issue with the audio out ports on the desktop. After moving the headset headphone and microphone plugs to the ports at the rear of the case pulseaudio-ctl showed one source and neither sink nor source muted. pavucontrol showed both the headset and mic turned off (but it saw the webcam mic and the external speakers.) The motherboard is an ASUS Prime X470-Pro. Are there other tests I can run? Are there two issues here: the headset headphones not properly working and sound ports on the desktop needing adjusting? I'm open to all suggestions, recommendations, and other advice.
