There are a lot of keyboards and a lot of chairs on the internet. As Tomas mentioned, we've been using meet.jit.si successfully for a couple months, so there's a proof-of-existence that it can work just fine. That suggests to me that the round hole in Rich's foot is self-inflicted. From his description, it sounds like (wild guess based on the sparse information provided) he disallowed giving the browser access to his microphone at some point. That's where I'd be looking if my microphone didn't work. The other thing I'd be interested in is whether his audio jack even supports a microphone. There is some diversity in whether the microphone jack is integrated with the headphone (4 contacts on the plug) or with a separate jack. So, does the microphone work in the jack using some other application? If not, that'd be his problem right there.
