Monday I used Chrome to participate in a ringcentral meeting, using the
Yamaha headset. When I try the same browser and headset with jitsi it tells
me that it "Failed to access your microphone. Cannot use microphone for
unknown reason."

pavucontrol configuration is:
Logitech webcam C925e Profile: off
HDA ATA HDMI Profile: off
HD-Audio Generic Profile: Analog Stereo Duplex

Input devices:
HD-Audio Generic Analog Stereo Port: Front Microphone (plugged in)

Output devices:
HD-Audio Generic Analog Stereo Port: Headphones (plugged in)

Have I mis-configured pavucontrol? How do I allow Chrome to access the
microphones?

The other thing I'd be interested in is whether his audio jack even
supports a microphone. There is some diversity in whether the microphone
jack is integrated with the headphone (4 contacts on the plug) or with a
separate jack. So, does the microphone work in the jack using some other
application? If not, that'd be his problem right there.

Let me clarify. The cord on the Yamaha head set splits toward the end. One
line terminates in a black jack for the headphones (which is plugged into
the green-rimed socket/port on the front of the case. This plug has three
sections separated by red rings around the plug.

The other line terminates in a grey jack for the microphone which plugs into
the red-rimmed socket/port on the front of the case. This plug has three
sections separated by black plastic rings.

The read of the motherboard also has red and green jacks, as have other
motherboards I've used. The green ones are for output and the red ones for
input as far as I know.

For more information, please ask.
