Hey,
It may just be easier to use a similar distribution without the systemd
mumbo jumbo. You said your using Ubuntu. I would recommend Devuan
(https://devuan.org/) which is Binary compatible with Debian which is
what Ubuntu is based off of. Devuan is solid engineering and I can
vouch for it. All my servers running it here.
Devuan completely sidesteps the Embrace Extend Exterminate of systemd
& friends.
