My HP 4630 all-in-one ink-jet printer appears to have died. See details
below. Looking for a replacement.

The last time I took count, we printed less than 10 pages/ week, majority
color. We want the scanner, but do not use the fax. My conclusion is that
inkjet is the proper choice. I know that there are lots of reasons to use
laser technology, but for my low use rate I do not think a case can be
made, but feel free to argue otherwise. Suggestions desired.
Thanks,
-Denis

The failure: It does not power on. There is a power module in the
printer. It is accessible. I took it out, plugged it in, measured the
voltage, unloaded, at the three pins. 3 is 32/12V, 2 is ground, 1 is marked
with a crescent moon. Voltage of pin 3 to 2 is 32V w/ moon open; 12V w/
moon grounded. This is what my web searches tell me they should be. Now
it is possible that the module is bad in spite of these measurements, but I
would guess unlikely. If the module is in fact good, I suspect further
attempts at repair would be beyond me, and too costly commercially. Again,
I will listen to counter arguments.

Finally, what to do with the carcass? Does PCC have classes in repair
techniques? And if anyone here wants slighly used ink cartridges #61 let
me know.
