Why?
Because
* Back ticks are deprecated, and in future may be used for something
else.
I've never heard of this. Interesting.
* One can nest $(), but not back ticks.
I've never thought of this. Useful.
* In some fonts, back ticks may be confused with ticks, producing
programming errors, where in most fonts parentheses are not easily
confused with other characters.
I've never doubted this. Figures.
* $() shows up better when one uses Emacs' parentheses matching minor
mode.
I've never needed this. Irrelevant. :)
That really is useful info to know. I'd be interested in reading about
the back tick being deprecated. Any links? I'll just google if not.
Is it just me, or has Gabe gotten mountainously funnier over the past
few years? I rarely laugh out loud, but this one got me. Thanks Gabe.
