IMHO, OpenLaszlo is a lot easier than Flex and it has streaming capabiliies using the red5 server. It's all tomcat based, so get ready for XM(HEL)L configuration files. Laszlo: http://www.openlaszlo.org Red5: http://osflash.org/red5 I believe they have streaming video demos in red5 that you could deconstruct. Both of those are open source and work quite well.
