No, a PhD is all about original research and your dissertation, not
extra coursework. Adding 30 credit hours of classes doesn't advance
your field of study.
I just meant that it takes 30 more credit hours to get the MCS degree
than the MS/CS. The PhD, takes 60 additional hours after MS/CS but 27
of those are part of your dissertation. I originally thought the PhD
was only 30 more credit hours too but I went back and checked that.
So I guess you could say to some extent, the MCS is sort of like a PhD
but without a dissertation. It does require a 6 credit hour "research
report" which I imagine most people that get the degree probably
extend from their Masters Thesis.
