Is your app using UDP or TCP/IP sockets? I guess if it's designed to work on flaky network connections and do its own error detection, it's probably UDP. If you try to mess with the TCP/IP socket connection you'll likely just end up with a hung process (or if you are using ASYNC communication, a timeout).
