re: wiping disks

This discussion of wiping of disks being a threat to loss of data for
evidence purposes is interesting, but pointless.

Any one knowledgeable enough with computers can set up an encrypted
drive and not have to worry about being raided. Part of SOP, as I
understand it, is to *not* boot the hard drive up under the original
operating system. If I have sufficient encryption in place, I don't
have to worry about the police cracking my filesystem.

It doesn't matter how fast the cops can get in the house and
incapacitate the suspect if he's sufficiently prepared. As a general
rule, the security mentality thinks that overwhelming force (in
whatever form) will be enough to carry the day. And until we get back
to telling the security mentality how we're going to live, instead of
allowing the security mentality telling us how to live, we're going to
more and more frequently hear stories of how it's the innocent persons
fault the cops beat down their door and trussed them up and
interrogated them as if they were guilty until proven innocent.

Hmmm ... "It's your fault I hit you!" ... sounds like domestic violence to me.
