I agree with that sentiment, personally in my eyes Novell has lost
quite a lot of it's luster. Not that I'm in any way trying to
disparage them, and all of the employees I've had the pleasure of
meeting are some of the most top-notch, highest caliber people. But
frankly I want stability with my next job, and Novell seems to subject
itself (and therefore it's employees), to cyclical resizing.

Not to make Mr. Merrill's job any more difficult, but I've seen Novell
do this grow/shrink, rightsize or whatever you want to call it, time &
time again. Instead of applying (unless you really, really need the
job), I'd recommend sending a resume with a letter attached and
addressed to who ever is in charge over there stating that even though
you're qualified for "position x", you're choosing not to out of
solidarity because what they are doing is not the right thing to do.

It's irresponsible of them to do it this way and it has significant
negative economic consequences locally. They need to try and fill all
positions internally first and to secure employment for those who have
been loyal all these years. Otherwise they are flooding the local
market with talent all at once and those who have difficulty finding
employment are going to have a really tough time in the current
market.

This means prolonged unemployment which is a total drain on social
services and thats assuming you can even get those services. Utah's
"Department of Workforce Services", is the worst joke I've ever seen,
we really need to rename it "Department of Worthless Services".
(Caveat: There is one gal who works there as the resume writer, she
does top notch work. But that's the only DWS service I've seen that's
even worth the time of taking the trip over there.)

Sorry if this has gotten a bit ranty, I have very strong feelings
about the whole Novell issue.
