Cloud based can be risky. I just read an article about Nest buying up a competitor for its employees. They reassigned the employees to a Nest project and then did an end-of-life notice on the purchased-company's product with an end date 1 day after the warranty expiration. So, people have $300 bricks because it was a cloud based home automation system. The ISY994i is a very flexible system. It does Insteon and they're expanding Z-wave support (multi-channel is in public alpha/beta). They have also rolled out new tools (in alpha) for bridging into any other systems via their polyglot tool (that runs along side the ISY994i on a Rpi). It isn't a shiny product but it is a very capable with real customization on a stand alone device. Some of the things the people on the forum are doing are impressive. A lot of integrators use ISY for their customers and then support the customers home automation remotely. It's a small company that's been around quite awhile with the owner actually responding to questions on the user forum. Browse the user forum and you'll see a lot discussions on the topics you are interested in and how it relates to ISY.
