I actually really want to build some very small controllers that can
communicate in an encrypted mesh and be used by just about anyone. Just a
function of time, really, but the parts should be something like $5-8 per
controller/node (so per plug, light switch, sensor, whatever) and some sort
of controller. Until then, UD will cover a lot of bases and probably be
very good to start from.

There was a note about cloud devices, and I'll second that they're scary.
I'll posit that you shouldn't use them if you have any technical ability
whatsoever. A $10/month AWS or Linode bill with some setup will be easier
and more robust than some app you don't control written by a company not
likely to be around for long.

Also note that a lot of the nicer stuff for this space is only available to
dealers. This is dumb, but it's the way it is for now.
