SlimCD is awesome!
Thanks!
Now, before we continue... I haven't tested this before. It should work.
But don't give up if it does not work at first try. We'll get there. I
warned you :-)
I have no clue how to add music already on my harddrive to my SlimCD
library. I can serve Internet Radio, but that's not what my goal is.
Under the server configuration tab of the SlimServer web interface I
cannot find the right path to my music folder. I've tried every
permutation of hda1 with both \ and / in front of and behind but can't
get the SlimServer to make these tunes available. The Windows 98SE
path to my music is C:\SLIM but this Linux stuff is driving me crazy.
Try setting the path to /mnt/hda1/SLIM (beware: Linux is case sensitive!)
I've also tried having the server rescan my library to no avail. Yes,
Slimserver will can the path you defined. Unless it's defined it won't
scan.
Also the help on saving the server settings isn't terribly helpful. I
I hope you've read all of the "Getting started" section, especially
http://www.herger.net/slim/detail.php?nr=762#save
This didn't help? Ok... You'll have to work in the shell (right mouse
button/XShells).
- define the device where to store your configuration:
sudo nano /opt/.backup_device
- enter "hda1" (your harddrive), press ctrl-x to save the change and exit
the nano text editor
- have the disk mounted at startup:
sudo nano /opt/bootlocal.sh
- go to the end of the file and enter the following command:
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
- again: ctrl-x
- now you have to tell the system to back up the settings. That's the
filetool.lst part of the docs I mentioned ;-)
nano ~/filetool.lst
- add the following line to the list (please verify the existence of these
files - I'm at the office and can't test):
/opt/slimserver/slimserver.pref
/home/root/.slimserversql.db
Now go ahead and properly shut down the system. Reboot. It should pick up
the changes automatically. If not, start again...
Ideally I would have SlimCD boot automatically using the dsl toram
You can't automatically set boot parameters without remastering the CD.
And that's another story!
parameter. It would then automatically configure itself for the same
static IP address of my choosing on my home network.
Use DHCP if possible.
Maybe I am trying to get it to do too much, but I believe these desires
are reasonable
They are, and it really should work. But I do not use it that way and
therefore lack some experience.
Good luck! And don't give up ;-)
