I had exactly the same symptoms as you. Tried all suggestions in this thread. As you, no success. Decided to try a reinstall of AlienBBC. It works!!!! Try it, you have nothing to loose. Delete all the AlienBBC stuff. Reset any changes you have made to conf files. Follow the installation instructions to the letter, including the extration of the files. Don't try and be clever (I thought I knew best). Good luck.
