This sounds very much like the socketwrapper problem that I had. Could you list (so that we have it all in one place), all of your security software. Firewalls, Antivirus, antispyware, VPN clients (for connecting to work), also detail how you are connected to the internet (eg. cable/satelite/dsl, through a ACME router/firewall). This may help those who know enough to diagnose this problem.
