Humph, now this is curious.

The 14th March version (from the AlienBBC page) just gave the error
message I mentioned, nothing else.

The 15rh March version, from your page, starts, as I would expect given
that I jusr tried to run mplayer with no parameters and from an odd
location (after all, it was just a test) with the Usage list. I could
have sworn that after that message it had continued with the same error
message as before.

But I have just tried it again, and it now does not give that error
message. In fact, when run with sensible parameters, it is working ok.
Though, interestingly, it is not using the codec that my normal mplayer
requires, instead I get

Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders
AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16be, 32.0 kbit/2.27% (ratio: 4005->176400)
Selected audio codec: [ffcook] afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg COOK audio decoder)

We do need to get more clarity on these matters, so as to tidy things
for future users.

1. If the 14th March version does have the problems it appears to have,
then the link at the bottom of the AlienBBC page needs to be changed to
point to your version. Maybe no harm in doing this anyway.

2. And if your version needs its codec in a place other than
/usr/local/lib/codecs (it may not, this may just be an artefact because
I am running your mplayer from my downloads folder and not from
/usr/local/bin) then this needs to be clarified for users, so we can
tidy up the advice and instructions.
