Hi Ceejay
- first experience was very bad - as soon as I started up slimremote,
slimserver crashed, only way to recover was to reboot my system! Now,
I'm happy to tell you that this can't be my fault :-).
But seriously: if it really crashed due to some action launched by
SlimRemote we should know _what_ instruction this was. I'm only using the
CLI (and http for artwork). If there was a crash, there must be a bug in
the CLI or some of the related Slimserver code.
I've been round a few times since then and not been able to reproduce
this, so it may just have been some random coincidental glitch, but I
guess we need to watch out for others suffering the same problem.
Do you remember at which step of the startup screen it crashed
- there is still an issue with the number of artists in "browse
artists" (I guess this is a CLI issue rather than yours)... I'm getting
the full list, not the short list that Various Artists behaviour gives
me on web interface and remote.
Yes, that's a CLI issue
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2827). As I'd like SlimRemote
to stay as simple as possible (concerning collection handling) I don't see
a chance to having this fixed without a proper CLI fix.
- there is an issue with handling very long track and album names which
One of my favorite artists is Peter Gabriel. His albums are called 1, 2,
3, 4, So, Us and Up. No problem with these names even on the smallest of
PDA screens :-)
So, first off, I'd like horizontal scroll bars available on the
playlist and browse windows so I can scroll to see the full track
titles or album names.
Good idea. I'll see what I can do.
Second, I'm losing a lot on the status window, The track title appears
on two lines, both of which are truncated, so I'm missing a bit in the
middle and a bit off the end. The album name only has the first line
visible - the second name is covered up by the progress bar.
There's indeed a lot of potential for improvement.
This is WITHOUT selecting large fonts on the settings window - if I do
that it gets worse...
Seems reasonable :-). Are you using a hires device?
Might a fix (allowing for the many different window sizes people will
be using) be to allow users to adjust the amount of status screen used
for album art vs titles?
This is something I have thought about before. If you run SlimRemote on
your PDA and on your PC you'll see that they don't use the same sized
artwork. It's currently guessing your type of device and will display
artwork larger or smaller. I thought about giving control back to the
user, possibly with more choices than just small/large. See eg. Sue's
screenshot (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24288#26): as
my guessing the screen size wasn't very elaborate, even hires PDAs
(480x640) were using small artwork, though SlimRemote is displayed larger
than what I'm using on desktops by default (320x480). In these cases it
would be reasonable to have the user decide what size he wants. Large
fonts only was a beginning.
BTW: just noticed on that photo that SlimRemote is using the generic Ewe
icon in the taskbar (instead of SlimRemote's own). Is this the same on
your device?
Thanks for your feedback. Regards,
