In addition to what Ceejay just said, in my experience, it's not enough to start and stop Slimserver a few times if it hasn't picked up MusicIP on startup (i.e. if it's not installed as a service). You need to get the API running on MusicIP and test the connection, then shut both applications down. Then start up MusicIP, then start up slimserver, then select Use MusicMagic on the Server Settings main page.
