There may be more than one problem here so let's try to clear up somehting about the Virgin stations first.
The Virgin station should behave differently than BBC. The Virgin Radio 1215AM/105.8FM UK (http://vruk.ic.llnwd.net/stream/vruk_vr_hi) station accessed from AlienBBC Virgin Menu is a Winamp MP3 and should be decoded by SB3 and so slimserver behaviour should not affect it unless there is something in your setup.
