Well, I'm currently streaming Radio 1 to my SoftSqueeze player, and I'm
getting a pretty constant "noise". It's just a repeated scratchy
second's worth of something (I must say Radio 1 sounds better this way
:o) But there are no long gaps in it at the moment.
I'm running "top" from a telnet window and can see the following :-
Code:
--------------------
Mem: 60080K used, 1764K free, 0K shrd, 3928K buff, 25856K cached
Load average: 3.23, 2.44, 1.53 (State: S=sleeping R=running, W=waiting)
PID USER STATUS RSS PPID %CPU %MEM COMMAND
340 root R 3320 338 48.2 5.3 mplayer
278 root R 26M 1 42.6 43.8 slimserver.pl
342 root R 1996 340 2.3 3.2 mplayer
364 root R 828 288 0.7 1.3 top
225 root S 800 1 0.1 1.2 thttpd
298 huf S 1908 188 0.0 3.0 bash
286 root S 1836 252 0.0 2.9 smbd
287 huf S 1796 188 0.0 2.9 bash
288 root S 1564 287 0.0 2.5 bash
373 root S 1508 298 0.0 2.4 bash
337 root S 1304 278 0.0 2.1 mplayer.sh
338 root S 1304 337 0.0 2.1 mplayer.sh
--------------------
Which sort of suggests to me that slimserver.pl itself is running at
26MB or so, two mplayer processes are running, the business one of
which is occupying... well it's actually averaging around the 55%CPU
tipping 60+% occasionally... with slimserver.pl taking another 30-odd%.
So I guess it's working too hard and there's almost no memory left!
When I stop the BBC and just play some mp3's slimserver.pl drops to
7%CPU
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by... > sending AlienBBC output as Flac
or MP3 ... Do I have a choice?
