I've been running Slimserver on a Windows server for sometime now. I'm
sure it will come as no surprise to many that my biggest issue is lack
of reliability.

Then I found out about SlimCD and thought it was a brilliant idea. I
originally wanted to run Linux, partly for cost, partly for improved
stability, but baulked at the learning curve. SlimCD sounded to me like
a neat way to work around a lot of that.

However, having downloaded it and got my machine booting I've
immediately hit problems. The OS isn't even recognizing my network card
- who knows how it'll get on with connecting wireless once it does.

I realise that just because someone's put together a very cool package
they shouldn't need to get involved with every newbie's basic set-up
issues. I know absolutely zip about Linux but I'm technically savvy and
am not afraid to learn... I just can't seem to come across any good
resources which start from first principles without immediately
detailing commands without explaining how to open a command window.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Any help much appreciated. Many thanks.
