RTE1 is an exception that need an additional codec loaded so it is not a good test. Have you tried any other RTE stations ?
Virgin uses MP3 or WMA which would be handled differently than RealAudio so I suspect something to do with SoftSqueeze. Is there any reason why you using SoftSq 2.0 ? What OS are you using ? What version of AlienBBC have you installed ? Have you increased the Network timeout ?
