As proof of concept - why do anything the easy way when you don't have
to? - I charged up my old Galaxy Note II, stripped it down, installed SB
Player, looped the output through a USB DAC/amp (an iBasso Cobra I've
had for years, for the gearheads among us) and listened contentedly
through a set of AKG K702s. Controlled the whole thing off my laptop.

So assuming I want to use Android rather than build a Raspberry Pi
Squeezebox, the next question becomes finding a media player that can be
plugged in, and which will accept a DAC. I'm not sure if every Android
device 5.x and above does or not - there are lots and lots of cheap
boxes on Amazon.
