It really is easy. No command line skills are required at all.
On first boot it's handy to have the Pi3 plugged in to an HDMI monitor -
just to get the IP address (although there are loads of other ways of
getting it) as you need the IP address to configure it.
I have a QNAP (3 actually) but gave up running LMS on it years ago. I
have been building Pi based LMS for friends for a couple of years and in
most cases I use an NFS mount to the QNAP. You can use Standard network
mounts (SMB/CIFS) but NFS is marginally quicker and quite a bit more
stable IMHO.
You will get loads of advice here

*Vortexbox LMS 7.9 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets
*Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 ->

*Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755
-> Wharfedale Modus Cubes
*Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio)
*Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones
*Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 ->
