I am not > dreaming (am I?). My brain must be somewhere else. I tried pcm encoding, raw on my M1 (it doesn't seem to like wav). Anything that is 24 bit gets noise. A 16 bit upsampled also gives noise. 24 bit downsampled to 16 bit is OK.
On my Marantz, it doesn't like raw pcm, only wav, and it seems OK. I think part of my problem is that my M1 is temperamental. Sometimes if it didn't play I have to turned it off for a minute, and then on, before it will do anything at all. I still think the byte order may be wrong in raw 24 bit pcm, but I don't know what else to try. Sorry I can't be more help.
