I'm puzzled too - what I needed to confirm that the plugin itself was
working under normal conditions. So the issues is somehow related to
thetype of VPN. I wonder whether the VPN "knows" about BBCiPlayer app
and WebUI (e.g. via the Http UserAgent headers) and takes special
measures. I'm looking around to see if other info about NordVPN.

CDN - Content Delivery Network. BBC don't own or run the many servers
which needed to stream the data - they subcontract them to two CDNs:
Akamai and Limelight Networks. When starting to playing a Live or Listen
Again the BBC top level URL returns a choice of two URLs - an Akamai
service or a Limelight service. BBCiPlayer plugin default chooses
Akamai but in the main BBC Iplayer menu, at the bottom there are "alt
CDN" menus which chooses Limelight.
