Concerning the archiving:
Yes, I agree with slartibartfast - you need to have either the GUI
version under Linux running (requires Java - you find a lot of hints at
the Sugacube website), or you need the windows version. Personally I use
the windows version to to tag all my songs using the archiving version (
rather fast using a multicore server CPU) then I copy them to my
rasperry and let rebuild the database of MusicIP (add music via the web
interface of MusicIP), which is pretty fast as well as it does not need
to tag the files anymore...)

Concerning MusicIP:
I thing it looks very promising - MusicIP seems to work according to
your observations.
Please leave the pluging acitavated, even if you want to use only
sugarcube - I think sugarcube might rely on MusicIP imports to your LMS
database.

Concerning Sugarcube:
The plugin seems to load, thus we need to find out why it does not want
to mix.
1) your debut files would be of great value
2) In the Spicefly Plugin settings make shure that you have the host and
port set to the right host and MusicIP ports
3) For slow servers like the Rasperry Pi, set the SQLite Timeout in
Seconds to 120

In case this does not work, pleas share the relevant Sucarcube logs of
your log-file
