Please do a md5sum on your disc - I'm pretty sure either your iso file or  
the cd is corrupt (you'll find the checksum on the download page).

Is the CD drive SATA, too?

While SATA indeed is a problem with SlimCD 1.8, it should run anyway, with  
or without disk.

SlimNAS (FreeNAS) and SlimCD (damnsmalllinux.org) have very little  
(nothing) in common. FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD and should be fine with  
SATA drives.
