However, I don't experience it with my win7 or win10 laptops with either build. If you don't specify an output device when starting squeezelite-win will use the default defined in the control panel and the MME (Windows multimedia extension audio driver), which you almost always don't want to use unless you are sending remote audio to an RDP client. Please try 'the last 1.8.7-1086 version' (http://ralph-irving.users.sourceforge.net/files/squeezelite-1.8.7-1086-dll.zip). The file only contains the squeezelite-win.exe, you need all the dlls from the '1.9.1-1139 earlier test build' (http://ralph-irving.users.sourceforge.net/files/squeezelite-1.9.1-1139-dll.zip). I'm trying to narrow down the change which might be causing the ticking.
