Thank you for continuing to investigate. I always believed you. I'm sorry if it seemed otherwise. I was able to reproduce the high pitch noise on my win10 work laptop and on a linux build using portaudio and your test 8KHz mp3. I had to use an old USB sound card that supports native 8000Hz playback to recreate the issue on linux. If resampling for unsupported native samplerates is enabled in squeezelite the high pitch noise is not audible. I found the problem in the Daphile Full DSD support changes and 'fixed it.'
