I have seen this behaviour on max2play installation. I click the plugins tab and nothing happens. After a while playback stops and my devices cannot connect to the server. It doesn't recover I need to stop and restart LMS.
Then I'll have to ask you the same question... what about the server.log? Did you ever check your system: would LMS eat all memory? Or the CPU?
