I installed WINE version 4.0.2 on my laptop, following the directions
here, for Ubuntu 16.04: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

Assuming I am in the folder where Squeezelite-X has been placed, I start
the Windows version of Squeezelite using the command:
WINE ./SQUEEZELITE-WIN.EXE -S 192.168.XXX.XXX -O 2 -N SQUEEZELITE-X

I start SqueezeliteX.exe separately. If I try to enable the local player
via SqueezeliteX, then the player aborts on startup. For a reason I
don't understand, when SLX tries to start the player, it does not
understand the output device I have specified, but on the command line -
it works fine. Strange.

I can see a list of audio output devices using Squeezelite-wine.exe -l,
and I get:
Output devices:
2 - Wine Sound Mapper - Output [MME]
3 - Pulseaudio [MME]
6 - Primary Sound Driver [Windows DirectSound]
7 - Pulseaudio [Windows DirectSound]
9 - Pulseaudio [Windows WASAPI]

In the past I worked on a Win32 application, a Network Management System
GUI, which came with the equipment my company manufactured. It was about
75,000 lines of multi-threaded C++, and I found while doing development,
that the best way to debug it, was to run the whole thing in WINE on
Linux! If it worked there, then it just worked, and looked exactly
correct, in Win 7, 8.???, 10, etc. If I didn't do that, then weird
differences would begin creeping in between the different versions of
Windows, that the MS Win Manager would not tell me about. WINE does not
permit the rules to be broken, or bent very far. Ironic - I found it to
be one of my best tools doing Win32 development:)
