Well, as suspected, I must have f*cked it up! Service starts but produces a load of errors. Disabled it - reloaded the original .yml & now back up and working. Maybe it's something to with file owner and/or permissions (the service file is owned by root, and ngrok.yml by pi). I'll leave it alone for a bit, and de-stress after one helluva day of power-cuts.
